Wellness Tip: Oil Pulling
Just a spoonful of oil makes the toxins go down, or so they say. Oil pulling: it may sound a little crazy, but "kavala" or "gundusha" as it is traditionally known, is an ancient Ayurvedic cleansing technique that has actually been practiced for centuries. And because radiant skin and a glowing smile starts from within, we are total advocates for the morning detoxifying ritual.
What does it do?
Typically, you can use olive or sesame oils, but we like cold pressed organic coconut oil best, due to it's potent antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Oil pulling is said to drastically improve on oral health by removing bacteria, whitening teeth, inhibiting tooth decay, curbing bad breath, preventing cavities and bleeding gums, soothing the throat as well as strengthening your gums and jaw. From the mouth, it's also said to reduce inflammation in the body, boost your immune system, improve acne and is even believe to help protect against heart disease.
So, how do you do it?
It's easy, on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, simply swish a tablespoon of cold pressed organic coconut oil in your mouth for 10-20 minutes. You can use this time to apply your LB Cream, some Shimmer Skin Illuminator to the high points of your face and Velvet Bronzing Make Up Base for some added bronze contour. You don't have to go into full mouth wash commercial mode, a gentle action is perfect - and make sure to "pull" the oil through your teeth while you swish. When you're done, spit the oil out, never swallow it (it's full of toxins). Rinse with water, brush your teeth and you've done your detox ready to start your day! Your skin, teeth and immunity will thank you!
