Beauty Tip: The Perfect Red Lip
A red lip is one of the best mood lifting, ante-upping, classic beauty tip in the book. Here’s how to create a great red lip every time.
Step One: Preparation
We are big on preparation so once again make sure you have a great canvas to work with. Use a light exfoliator like the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Love Lip Renewing Honeybee Scrub and hydrate you lips so that there is no dead or chapped skin. Our go-to is Burt’s Bees’ Rejuvenating Lip Balm with Acia Berry. Apply first and let it absorb for 15-20mins and then lightly tab any excess product off.
Step Two: Liner
A liner is really important to make sure you get a great shape on the lip and it will also help the lipstick not run into the fine lines around your lips during wear. Use a liner that is a similar colour to your lips not the lipstick colour you’re using. This means two thing, you can wear one liner with various colours and as it’s only there to frame the lip it doesn’t matter what colour it is as long as it doesn’t stand out.
Step Three: Apply
Apply your lipstick in the centre of both lips then work your way out. We find it easier to use large sweeping motions but what ever makes you feel in control. Then using a sharp pointed cotton tip, clean up any mess or smudges.
Step Four: Blot
We love to blot the lips after applying lipstick to really make sure the product sticks and lasts for the long haul. You can use tissue paper or even blotting paper normally used for oil control. The blotting paper will take away any excess shine or product without taking too much of the colour pigments.
Step Five: Highlight
Using The Base Skin Illuminator Shimmer apply a small amount of the product to another cotton tip to the top of the lip, focusing on the cupids bow and also along the bottom in the centre. This will reflect light, define the shape and make your lips pop.
