How To: Tame the Frizz
Step One: The Pre Wash
Treatments like 3 More Inches Pre Wash Treatment is a perfect first step when trying to protect and hydrate your hair to avoid the frizz. You can also use something as simple as natural yogurt or half an avocado as a pre-wash treatment to help calm your hair. Just apply to your whole head, use a large tooth comb to smooth it through and leave for ten minutes. You can also use glad-wrap to maintain mess and make sure your hair is really absorbing the treatment
Step Two: Washing
If you are experiencing extremely frizzy hair then use a shampoo and conditioner specific to the problem. Ask your hairdresser for a recommendation or try the Living Proof No Frizz Shampoo.
Also avoid washing your hair too frequently, while you don’t to flip the spectrum completely and have oily locks, the natural oils that accumulate between washes are great frizz fighters.
Step Three: Deep Conditioning
We recommend when experiencing any hair dryness or frizz to never skip on the conditioner. Frizz happens when dry, porous hair sucks up moisture in the air, a heavy does of conditioner will help coat the hair making it harder for moisture to get in.
You can use your normal conditioner but instead of rubbing it through and rinsing try combing it through using a no tangles comb or large tooth comb and leave for at least 5 mins. We like to get the shampoo and conditioner treatment out of the way when we first get in the shower, tie your hair up loosely and then attend to other duties.
Step Four: Drying
This is originally a tanning tip of ours but it works for helping to tame the frizz too, don’t use a towel to dry your hair. The towel acts as an exfoliator for both your skin and hair, making your tan fade and roughs up the hair cuticles when you rub your hair dry leaving it frizzy. Try combing your hair and squeezing the ends, scrunching then leaving to air dry. Or if you must use a towel then try a soft thinner one as it’s much gentler. We often recommend a muslim towel when tanning so it’s a great multi-use product.
Step Five: Protection
If you are using heat based products like a hairdryer or straightener then these might be the cause of your frizziness. Use a heat protecting spray before use to help avoid this issue and use a diffuser on your hairdryer.
Tip: Go Alcohol free
Double check your products and make sure you are using alcohol free as it may cause the cuticles to swell and cause a frizzing effect.
Tip: Use Oils
Use a smoothing and soothing oil to help calm flyways and tame your hair. We recommend never applying directly to your hair but lather or spray in your hands and scrunch through the ends of your hair then you can comb your fingers through the top section of the head. This will ensure you only use a minimal amount of product above the ears and avoid a greasy or oily look.
You can also apply a oil like Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Oil Hair Serum on to a large toothbrush to help tame flyways and target individual awol strands.
