Beauty Tip: Exfoliating
Sometimes simple is best, and when it comes to combining scrubs and exfoliators with self tanning products it couldn’t be more true.
What to avoid when exfoliating with a tan
Whilst exfoliating with a self tanner is a great way to eliminate any streaks or discolouration during the life of the tan by not allowing and dead skin to build up and mark it can also be a fine line between maintaining and completely removing.
You don’t want any products that may have a lightening effect the skin, bi-carb soda, lemon and any acids like glycol or salicylic also aren’t great for keeping your tan so try to avoid them if possible.
Face vs. Body
We believe that you should be as gentle and conscious of the products you use on your body as you are with your face. So when it comes to picking an exfoliator for the two we have an easy solution, use the same one. Some body scrubs have a larger granule or texture then face exfoliators which isn't always great for your tan, use a scrub that is delicate enough to use on your face to ensure you are only exfoliating dead skin and not scrubbing off your tan completely.
1/2 cup fine sugar
1/2 cup ground coffee
1 cup coconut oil
Mix together using your hands, the warmth from your hands will allow the coconut oil to bind to the sugar and coffee.
Alternative to scrubs
If you have sensitive skin or any skin conditions you should try a natural exfoliator like the Microderma Mitt’s 100% natural silk mitt. It will leave your skin soft and clean without stripping any natural oils or using chemicals to do so. This is also gentle enough to use on your face and will help reduce blackheads and any build up to keep your skin smooth.
The Aquis Exfoliating Washcloth in linen is another great alternative. It has two sides for different levels of exfoliation depending on your skin type and needs. It’s like a loofah on one side and smooth microfibre gentle cleansing side, you never want to cause damage by pulling or scrubbing at the skin so don’t go over board with exfoliating and also pat your self dry with a towel don’t instead of rubbing which pulls at the skin.
