Winter Beauty Survival
During cooler months your skin may have a tendency to dry out, this dryness also extends to your collagen and may speed up the ageing process over many winters. It's important to keep your skin hydrated during this time but it's also important to use products that don't create or enhance dryness themselves.
For cleansing you should try and stick to cream, balm or milk based products. We love the Eve Lom Cleanser as it's balm based and helps keep your skin soft and bright. If you need intense hydration we recommend you also increase the amount of oils you are using. Try not to introduce too many but stick to the one you have been using in summer and just increase the usage. The more hydrated and soft your skin is the better it will hold a tan. Cleansers that are gel based can leave the skin feeling tight and this is a sensation you want to avoid.
If your skin is dry your make-up may start to mimic and enhance the dry texture of your skin. RMS Beauty products are oil based so instead of drying out your skin or drying out themselves during wear they blend and sooth the skin. We really can't rave about this brand enough.
During winter you need to take special care of preparing your skin for a tan, especially when it comes to the topic of maintaining hydration. You may need to adopt a thicker moisturiser then the one you use in summer, to not only create a glowing natural tan but so that you can maintain it.
For the body we recommend only taking short warm showers. Hot showers will dry your skin out more, apply an oil all over whist still slightly damp and then lather yourself in a simple but rich cream like Egyptian Magic.
If you have eczema it can worsen during the cooler months, try limiting your showers as suggested, cut out all soaps and lathering in a rich cream. You may need to see your doctor who can help treat eczema with topical creams or other treatments.
Dry skin can leave your tan looking patchy and discoloured. We would avoid exfoliating as it may irritate the skin further and revert to hydration first, clay masks can also be very effective in spot treating dry skin. If the patches become red, itchy or increase in size it's best to see a doctor about it.
Redness is also an issue that like to spring up during winter, especially around your nose and eyes. The skin in these areas can be quite thin and sensitive so we like to treat it with Charlotte Tibury Treat and Transform Moisturiser or 'magic cream'.
It's important to keep hydrated all day during winter so although we can increase creams and oils in our morning and night time routines it's also great to arm yourself with products throughout the day. We love mists like Chantecaille Pure Rosewater and oils including Mecca Cosmetica Elixir Body Oil. If you want to help boost your tan apply The Base Body Glow Oil over your instant or gradual tan.
