5 minutes with Amanda Shadforth
Mandy... although a very select few call me Shadsy.
Place of birth?
One of my favourite local places does an amazing Gin and Pink Grapefruit Cocktail, it's extremely refreshing on a hot summer day and much too easy to drink.
Suntan lotion on hot skin.
Top three beaches?
1. The Karma Kandara beach on the Bukit Peninsular in Bali. I got married to my hubby Sam here and we had dinner under the stars, it was magical.
2. Secret Beach in Hanalei, Hawaii. This beach is sat at the bottom of the cliffs and the only way down is via a rope that you have to shimmy down from the top, the water is filled with turtles and the rainforest touches the sand. I surf and it's the most beautiful location to catch waves.
3. My home beach on the Sunshine Coast... it's definitely a secret spot and I could never say exactly where it is. It's untouched and only known by locals, this is a place that I can go and relax without a care in the world.
Best beauty advice you've been given?
Always remove your makeup before bed, it doesn’t matter how tired you are! Also, if you’re travelling a lot clean skin is the only way, and finally – black eyeliner, always.
Beauty products you can't live without?
A good sunscreen (I live in Queensland so it is definitely a necessity), black mascara and illuminator.
What are 5 things that are always in your handbag?
Peppermints (all my friends will tell you that I’m addicted), a sketch pad and pen, wallet, and Chanel black nail polish… black is always the easiest colour to touch up if you have any chips.
Prada by Prada is always my number one!
Advice you would give to the next generation of women?
There are so many distractions and external influences in our lives these days, don’t lose yourself by getting caught up in Social Media - Stay grounded and take the time to appreciate the most important things in life… Travel, nature, friends and family.
What qualities in women inspire you?
Passion and creativity, it’s also really important not to take yourself too seriously, being able to laugh at yourself can keep you sane when things get a little hectic.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I know it sounds like a cliché but mother nature is the greatest inspiration, there are so many ways that nature is tied into what I do, particularly when it comes to my photography. As a photographer the perfect lighting or the perfect location inspire an entire shoot, being able to work outside in the sunshine is one of the elements of my job that I enjoy the most. You can also never underestimate the amazing influence that friends, family and other creatives have on your work, in my industry I am so lucky to be surrounded by incredible people who are so unique and encourage me to think outside of the box.
Secretly addicted to?
Taking Polaroids… I have boxes of them all over my house and office.
What are three words to describe your work?
Contemporary, Curated, Creative
Work you are most proud of?
I can’t say too much about it just yet but I recently directed, styled and photographed an editorial with one of my favourite high profile models for the Oracle Fox Journal… stay tuned.
